Despite the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations concluding on February 5, video analyst Nus refused to return home due to the pay disagreement with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Ghana were beaten 2-0 in the semi-finals by Cameroon, who would eventually go on to win the tournament in Gabon, on February 2.

Following the conclusion of the tournament the entire Ghanaian coaching team were not paid their bonuses on time because of "financial difficulties".

The GFA explained the issues to staff but urged them to go home, informing them they would be paid at a later date when the money became available.

Head coach Avram Grant, the former Chelsea manager, was among those to agree.

Nus, a former Liverpool under-21 coach, insisted on staying, however, in a bid to receive his money.

In a statement published on the GFA's website, it was announced that they had "finally managed to raise the funds to the pay Black Stars assistant video analyst Gerard Nus all his outstanding bonuses".

Just as it appeared the incident was over, however, a number of unsettled bills at Nus' hotel reportedly forced him to miss his initial flight back to Spain.

"When the hotel asked him to pay for the extra expenses he had incurred outside the agreed expenses to be paid by the GFA for his stay at the hotel, Mr Nus refused," added the statement.

"The GFA paid for his food and accommodation during his stay while expenses like the use of the mini-bar, telephone, pay television and laundry must be paid by the individual.

"When hotel officials asked him to pay his extra expenses when checking out on Saturday night, he descended into frenzy by causing disorder and verbally assaulting hotel staff and security while causing discomfort for other guests in the hotel.

"The hotel insisted that they won't allow him to leave until he settles his bills.

"Despite these warnings, Nus refused to pay the hotel for his extra expenses which resulted in him missing the flight."

The situation has since been resolved between Nus and the hotel, according to reports, which enabled him to return home today.

"All of this was more about having principles and claiming for the right things more than the money itself," Nus told the BBC.

"I'm just happy to see my family now."
