Top seed Mohamed Elshorbagy will face home star Nick Matthew for a place in the final of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) British Open after each won gruelling last eight matches in Hull today.

Both were kept on court for exactly 82 minutes before winning respective five set duels. 

Elshorbagy first recovered from 2-1 down to overcome fellow Egyptian Ali Farag 11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-5 at the Airco Arena.

Matthew  then dug just as deep to prevail 11-9, 10-12, 11-6, 7-11, 11-6 against Egypt's eighth seed Tarek Momen.

Gregory Gaultier won an all-French clash against Mathieu Castagnet 11-4, 11-6, 11-6 in 35 minutes.

Fifth seed Ramy Ashour will stand in wait in the semi-finals after overcoming fellow-Egyptian Mohamed Abouelghar 10-12, 7-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 at the bottom of the draw.

There will be another Anglo-Egyptian clash in the semi-finals in the women's singles draw.

Fifth-seed Laura Massaro rose to the occasion in front of a raucous home crowd against third seed Raneem El Welily.

She recovered from a second set setback to triumph 11-3, 13-15, 11-6, 11-6 in 47 minutes.

Top seed Nour El Sherbini lies in wait at the last four stage after thrashing England's Emily Whitlock 11-3, 11-4, 11-4 in just 23 minutes.

Seventh seed Sarah-Jane Perry joined fellow countrywoman Massaro in the semi-finals after beating Donna Urquhart of Australia 11-4, 7-11, 13-11, 6-11, 11-4.

Malaysia's Nicol David is facing second seed Camille Serme of France in the final match.

Semi-final ties are due to take place tomorrow.
