The United States’ Chris Corning was the best performer in men's qualification as the final leg of this season’s International Ski Federation (FIS) Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup begun in Czech town Spindleruv Mlyn today.

Corning, who won slopestyle bronze at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships in Sierra Nevada earlier this month, advanced to the final after winning heat two with a best score of 92.00 points.

Switzerland’s Jonas Boesiger came second with 90.25 points, while Austria’s Clemens Schattschneider came third with 88.00.

In heat one, Corning’s compatriot Redmond Gerard led the way on 90.25 with Great Britain’s Rowan Coultas second on 85.50 and Norway’s Fridtjof Tischendorf third on 84.25.

World silver medallist Zoi Sadowski Synnott of New Zealand delivered the strongest display in qualifying for the equivalent women’s event, reaching the final by posting a best score of 89.00 points in heat two.

Britain’s Aimee Fuller finished second with 74.25, while in heat one, Canada’s Spencer O’Brien registered 87.50 to beat runner-up Tess Coady of Australia by a margin of 10.75.

Canada’s Jasmine Baird and Baily McDonald managed scores of 70.75 and 71.75 points in heats one and two respectively to qualify for the semi-finals.

There was also snowboard cross qualification action held today in Veysonnaz in Switzerland as Spain’s Lucas Eguibar and Czech Republic’s Eva Samkova headed the respective men’s and women’s standings. 

World silver medallist Eguibar’s closest challenger was Australia’s Alex Pullin, while the US's Nick Baumgartner came third.

France’s Charlotte Bankes finished runner-up to Samkova with world bronze medallist Michela Moioli of Italy rounding out the top three.

Competition in both slopestyle and snowboard cross is scheduled for tomorrow.
