Italy’s Camilla Lontano finished top of the women’s qualification standings on the second day of the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM) World Cup in Cairo.

Lontano impressed throughout the day at the Cairo International Stadium, with 993 points proving the highest total in qualifying.

The field were separated into two different groups, with 36 athletes booking their place in the final in the Egyptian capital.

Britain’s Kate French was the second highest qualifier, accruing 992 across the swimming, fencing and combined disciplines.

She was followed by Olympic silver medallist Elodie Clouvel, with the French athlete ending on a tally of 991.

Reigning world champion Sarolta Kovacs of Hungary also progressed, scoring 953 in the second qualifying group.

The host nation will have representation in the final, with four of their athletes having earned places.

The men’s final is scheduled to be held tomorrow in Cairo, with the women’s individual competition set for Saturday (March 25).

A mixed relay will bring the World Cup to a close on March 26.

The World Cup is the second event of the season, following the campaign getting underway in Los Angeles last month.

Egypt are holding the event ahead of the country staging the World Championships later this year, with the competition also due to be held in the capital city.
