Canada sealed their spot in the play-off stage of the World Women's Curling Championship with their 100 per cent record in tact as they beat Sweden and the Czech Republic in Beijing.

The Sochi 2014 Olympic gold medallists remain unbeaten and have now won nine matches in a row at the Capital Gymnasium.

They guaranteed themselves a place in the next round when they overcame Sweden, their closest challengers on the round-robin leaderboard, 6-4 in a closely-fought encounter in the morning session.

Sweden skip Anna Hasselborg managed to level the match at 2-2 in the fourth end after her side had fallen behind but Canada then reinstalled their advantage.

Hasselborg hit back to reduce the gap to 4-3 but the dominant Canadians scored two in the eighth end thanks to skip Rachel Homan, before they wrapped up a narrow victory.

With their play-off berth already secure, Canada then proved far too strong for the Czech Republic, claiming a 9-3 win to maintain their formidable start to the tournament.

"That was a strong performance," Homan said after the game against Sweden.

"It’s always important to have the hammer, no matter who you’re playing.

"You’ve got to try to get your twos with the hammer and force the one when you don’t and we did a good job on that today.

"We’re focusing on one game at a time, not having any distraction and focusing on what we need to focus on.”

Sweden bounced back from their loss at the hands of Canada in the morning session as they edged South Korea 6-5 to move a step closer to the play-offs.

The Swedes now have a seven win and two defeat record, with Russia, who overcame the United States 8-6 in the evening session, closely behind with six victories and three losses.

There is currently a three-way tie for fourth position – between Scotland, Switzerland and Germany.

Action in Beijing, the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, continues tomorrow.
