Top seed Lin Dan of China and counterpart Shi Yuqi both progressed with ease at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Swiss Open at the the St. Jakobshalle in Münchenstein today.

Double Olympic champion Lin comfortably dispatched Japan's Koki Watanabe 21-13, 21-13 to secure his place in the next round.

Shi, who arrived in Switzerland fresh from finishing as runner-up at the All England Open in Birmingham, where he was beaten in the final, made light work of Ireland's Scott Evans.

It took just 28 minutes for the second seed to prolong his stay at the BWF Grand Prix Gold event as he wrapped up a convincing 21-17, 21-13 win.

Lin, who lost to Shi in the All England Open semi-finals, will next clash with 14th seed Brice Leverdez of France.

Shi is due to take on Denmark's Anders Antonsen, seeded ninth.

While Lin and Shi breezed into the next round, one of their team-mates suffered a shock loss as seventh seed Huang Yuxiang crashed out of the tournament with a 21-17, 21-16 defeat at the hands of Mark Caljouw, the current Dutch national champion.

The reward for Caljouw, a double European Junior Championships medallist, is a meeting with Denamrk's 16th seed Emil Holst.

It proved to be a relatively straightforward day for the seeds in the women's draw as Zhang Beiwen of the United States, who has also previously represented China and Singapore, ousted Mariya Mitsova of Bulgaria.

The second seed cruised to the next round by virtue of a 21-10, 21-15 succes.

Her next opponent will be Denmark's Mia Blichfeldt.

Multiple world junior champion Chen Yufei, seeded third at the Swiss Open, is also through as she overcame Maria Ulitina of the Ukraine 22-20, 21-5 to set up a meeting with home favourite Sabrina Jaquet.

Surprise British Olympic bronze medallists Marcus Ellis and Chris Langridge, who are representing England in Münchenstein, were among the winners in the men's doubles.

The fourth seeds beat Irish duo Joshua and Sam Magee 21-10, 21-14.
