Li-Chiung Su, the chief executive of the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade Organising Committee, has led colleagues on a test run of the Taoyuan International Airport Metro which will be a key transport link during the event.

During the Universiade fans will be able to take the Metro Taoyuan, which has free wifi, to the Xinzhuang Sports Park.

They will also be able to transfer to Metro Taipei, which provides access to venues for 15 sports.

The Metro Taoyuan has 21 stations in total, including Taipei Main Station which connects to the Tamsui-Xinyi and Bannan MRT metro lines.

This allows quick access to nine more venues including the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Centre and the Taipei Tianmu Baseball Stadium.

Sanchong Station provides transfer to the Zhonghe-Xinlu line, allowing spectators to reach the venues for five more sports, including open water swimming, baseball and football.

Linkou Station will be the designated stop for the Athletes’ Village.

Athletes and officials from 150 countries housed in the Village will be able to travel to and from the station on shuttle buses operating during the Universiade.

During the test run, the Organising Committee took an express train from Taipei Main Station to Taoyuan International Airport Terminal One station.

The metro system has been designed to give spectators and visitors a chance to explore the city in a bid to boost the possible tourism benefits the Universiade could provide.

The public can also use the metro to access a number of activities with designated stops for cultural highlights such as Dadaocheng, the Huashan 1914 creative park and Songshan cultural and creative park.

Athletes and guests will be able to travel on the metro and other public transport systems using the 13,000 smart watches that will be offered by the Organising Committee through a collaboration between Media Tek, Acer and EasyCard.

EasyCard provides an electronic stored value card to allow payment to be made quickly and conveniently.

It will also allow users to pay for public transport and bicycle hire and shop purchases quickly and easily using the EasyCard function, allowing them to "enjoy a highly convenient payment experience and spreading Taipei’s smart, healthy city image around the world".

Due to take place from August 19 to 30, the 2017 Summer Universiade will be the largest international sports showpiece that Chinese Taipei has ever staged.
