The World Association of Kickboxing Organisations (WAKO) has teamed up with charity Peace and Sport to promote a campaign from the latter during the Irish Open.

Throughout the tournament that started yesterday and runs until Sunday (March 5), the White Card campaign, which supports the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April 6, will be part of the event.

More than 4,000 athletes are taking part in the competition at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin, which is Europe’s biggest kickboxing event.

Peace and Sport was set up in 2007 by Joël Bouzou, the men’s modern pentathlon bronze medallist from the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The charity aims to promote sport as a tool peace and is based in Monaco.

Alongside their collaboration with Peace and Sport, fundraising will also be done during the tournament for the Irish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
