Hockey Australia have confirmed Cam Vale has stepped down as its chief executive.

Vale had been part of the governing body since 2013, but told the organisation last month that he had decided to stand down from the role and will take up the same position at Baseball Australia.

A search for his replacement has already started with Ben Hartung acting as the interim chief executive for the time being.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in hockey and leave a better chief executive from my experiences, which is in large part because of the staff, directors, athletes and their stakeholders that have supported me during my time as chief executive, who I thank for their support,” Vale said.

“The sport of hockey is well placed for the next step in growth off the pitch and success on the pitch and I look forward to seeing this as a converted “hockey tragic”.”

Melanie Woosnam, President of Hockey Australia, said although the board were sad to see Vale depart, they respected the decision and thanked him for the work he has done with them.

“The board respects and understands Cam’s decision and would like to take this opportunity to thank Cam for all his efforts over the past three-and-a-half years,” she said.

“We would also like to reassure our athletes, fans and all of our key stakeholders that it’s business as usual as far as the sport of hockey is concerned.

“We wish Cam and his family all the very best for the future.”

Australia are the reigning Commonwealth Games champions in field hockey in both the men's and women's competitions.
