Around 13,000 smart watches that will be distributed to competitors at the Taipei 2017 Summer Universiade thanks to a collaboration between Media Tek, Acer and EasyCard.

In order to "allow competitors from around the world to experience the outstanding capability of Taiwan’s IT industry first-hand", the trio have developed the device that has EasyCard stored-value, allowing purchasing and exercise tracking functions.

The watch will provide Taipei 2017 competitors with a method for easy purchasing and various daily life services during their time in Taiwan.

It also can be used to monitor heart rate, track personal health information and record exercise and calorie consumption.

Media Tek claims to be global-leader chip company with 1.5 billion electronic products containing a built-in Media Tek chip reaching the market every year.

Acer is a world leader in handheld devices, smart home application, wireless connection technology and was established more than 40 years ago.

EasyCard provides an electronic stored value card to allow payment to be made quickly and conveniently.

The watch will provide new health management and exercise recording functions.

It will also allow users to pay for public transport and bicycle hire and shop purchases quickly and easily using the EasyCard function, allowing them to "enjoy a highly convenient payment experience and spreading Taipei’s smart, healthy city image around the world".

Due to take place from August 19 to 30, the 2017 Summer Universiade will be the largest international sports showpiece that Chinese Taipei has ever staged.
