Qatar's Cherif Younousse made a successful start to the defence of his title at the 2017 International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach Volleyball World Tour event on Iran's Kish Island today.

Younousse is partnering Júlio César Do Nascimento Júnior at this year's tournament and the pair began their campaign in comfortable fashion in the round of 32 today.

They defeated Jindrich Weiss and Martin Tichy of the Czech Republic 21-16, 21-19.

Younousse and Júnior will now take on Russia's Maxim Sivolap and Igor Velichko tomorrow after they overcame John Mayer and Ryan Doherty of the United States 21-19, 21-16.

Mojtaba Amiri and Mohammad Sadeghi Malati were the only Iranian representatives to win in yesterday's qualification round but they were eliminated on home sand.

The duo were easily beaten by last year's runners-up, Oleg Stoyanovskiy and Artem Yarzutkin of Russia, 21-7, 21-17.

Hosts Iran were represented by three other pairings in the main draw today but they were all eliminated as well.

Rahman Raoufi and Bahman Salemiinjehboroun were defeated 21-19, 19-21, 16-18 by Cole Durant and Zachery Schubert of Australia.

Abhamohammad Salagh and Abolhamed Mirzaali suffered the same fate as they were beaten 21-12, 21-17 by French duo Romain Di Giantommaso and Maxime Thiercy.

Germany's Lorenz Schumann and Julius Thole then inflicted further misery on the Iranian crowd as they eliminated Abbas Pourasgari and Arash Vakili 21-17, 22-24, 17-15.

Elsewhere, Iaroslav Gordieiev and Mykola Babich of Ukraine came from a set down to defeat  Jasper Bouter and Tom van Steenis of The Netherlands.

The Dutch duo raced into a one set lead after winning the first 21-15 before their European rivals replied by winning the second 13-21.

Gordieiev and Babich then secured their place in the next round by claiming the deciding third set 6-15.

Action is set to continue with round of 16 matches tomorrow.
