Great Britain’s Dylan Fletcher-Scott and Stuart Bithell claimed the 49er class title at the Sailing World Cup in Miami.

The duo had a tense medal race as Austrians Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl looked to snatch away the top prize.

But they were able to keep within reach of their challengers and their fifth place finish was enough to give them the gold.

Bildstein and Hussl came fourth in the final race and in doing so, ensured they collect silver medals while Spain’s Diego Botin and Iago Lopez Marra nipped ahead of Swedish pair Carl Sylvan and Marcus Anjemark to complete the podium line-up.

Fletcher-Scott and Bithell have only recently joined forces and were delighted to get rewards so early on in their partnership.

“It feels like we’ve gelled pretty well,” Bithell, who won a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games in London I nthe 470 competition, said.

“There’s still plenty of work to do, but it’s nice to be on top of the podium.”

More British success came in the Nacra17 competition as Ben Saxton and Nicola Groves topped the podium.

It came after the top three places in the final race were taken up by British crews, with Saxton and Groves coming second.

John Gimson and Anna Burnet won the medal race while Tom Phipps and Nicola Boniface were third, which helped them end the contest in silver medal position.

A seventh place in the medal race for Nico Delle-Karth and Lauro Schofegger of Austria made sure they ended the World Cup with bronze.

Brazilians Martine Soffiati Grael and Kahena Kunze, Olympic champions from last year’s Games in Rio, showed they are still the duo to beat in the 49erFX class as they won the title.

Norwegian twins Ragna and Maia Agerup took silver and Victoria Travascio and Maria Branz of Argentina finished third overall.

Yunxiu Lu of China won the women’s RS:X regatta with veteran windsurfer from Spain Marina Alabau Neira coming second.

Another Chinese windsurfer, Manjia Zheng, won bronze.

In the men’s RS:X competition, there was a French one-two in the final standings as Louis Giard and Pierre Le Coq claimed the top spots respectively, while Switzerland’s Mateo Sanz Lanz completed the podium places.

Several regattas will come to a close tomorrow.

In the Laser class, France’s Jean Baptiste Bernaz guaranteed himself the title with a day to spare and Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus is also guaranteed either silver or bronze.

The battle for the final medal with a three-way tussle between Nick Thompson and Lorenzo Chiavarini, both of Britain, and Germany’s Philipp Buhl.

The Laser Radial podium is also set, barring something dramatic happening on the final day, with Greece’s Vasileia Karachaliou first, Evi van Aker of Belgium second and French sailor Mathilde de Kerangat third.

Brazil’s Jorge Zarif is already guaranteed gold in the Finn regatta while Britain’s Ben Cornish and Anders Pedersen of Norway will battle for silver.

Turkish sailor Alican Kaynar and Luke Muller of the United States could also get a podium spot if results go their way.

American pairing Stu McNay and David Hughes are assured a medal in the Men’s 470 as they lead the class, with Greeks Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis and Japan’s Testsuya Isozaki and Akira Takayanagi currently occupying second and third, although four other crews could still beat them.

The women’s 470 standings going into the final day of action see four crews with a chance of topping the podium.

The quartet going for gold are Afrodite Zeger and Annaloes van Veen of The Netherlands, Sophie Weguelin and Eilidh McIntyre of Britain along with two Spanish crews Silvia Mas Depares and Paula Barcelo Martin and the Ravetllat’s, Barbara Cornudella and Sara Lopez.
