Paris will hold a World Para Athletics Grand Prix event for the first time during the upcoming season, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has announced.

The French capital, a candidate city for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games along with Budapest and Los Angeles, will hold its maiden competition from May 30 to 31.

The event, set to take place at the Charléty Stadium Paris, will be the seventh stop on the World Para Athletics Grand Prix calendar after the IPC confirmed the schedule for the series, due to run from March to June.

It will begin with the season-opener in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates from March 20 to 23.

Competitors will head to the annual meeting in Tunisia’s capital Tunis from April 13 to 15, before São Paulo hosts the third event of the campaign between April 20 and 22.

Four Grand Prix events are scheduled for May, starting with one in Rieti in Italy from May 5 to 7.

The series is then set to move to Arizona in the United States from May 12 to 13, with a competition in Chinese capital Beijing due to run alongside from May 13 to 15.

Paris will make its debut on the World Para Athletics Grand Prix circuit at the end of the month.

Europe has been chosen to stage the last two competitions of the season, with Nottwil in Switzerland playing host to the penultimate event from June 2 to 5.

Berlin, the venue for the 2018 European Championships, will stage the final World Para Athletics Grand Prix on June 17 and 18.

"Following the success of the Rio 2016 Paralympics - where athletes once again raised their performances to new levels - the 2017 Grand Prix season will bring together many of the world’s best Para athletes ahead of London 2017," IPC director of summer sports Ryan Montgomery said.

"The Grand Prix season has grown in size and stature each year since its launch in 2013 and we are excited that this year we will be heading to Paris for the first time.

"This year’s calendar is extremely compact – nine events in 12 weeks – all building up to this year’s World Para Athletics Championships in London."

Following the conclusion of the World Para Athletics Grand Prix, the World Para Athletics World Championships are scheduled from July 14 to 23 at the Olympic Stadium on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.
