Italy's Arianna Fontana claimed her first International Skating Union (ISU) European Short Track Speed Skating Championships title for four years on home ice in Turin today.

Fontana added a sixth continental crown to her tally after failing to win one since 2013.

The 26-year-old led on 42 points overnight and made the most of her advantage today.

Despite finishing fifth in the 1,000m event, the Italian claimed a decisive victory in the 3,500m Super Final in a time of 5 min 27.691sec.

Her win gave her a total points tally of 79 which was enough to claim top spot in the overall classification. 

Russia claimed the other two places on the podium.

Sofia Prosvirnova took second after she claimed the 1,000m title with an overall tally of 73.

Her compatriot Ekaterina Konstantinova finished way back in third on 39 points despite finishing second in the Super Final.

Fontana enjoyed further success in the women's 3,000m relay race as the Italian team were victorious in a time of 4:12.838.

Hungary were second in the final in 4:17.195 while The Netherlands rounded out the podium in 4:18.446.

Russia's Semen Elistratov retained his men's European Championships crown. 

The Sochi 2014 Olympic gold medallist and former 1,500m world champion led overnight as he collected 39 points yesterday, following his victory in the 1,500 metres event.

Elistratov took third in the 1,000m today but it was his victory in the 3,500m Super Final in a time of 5:01.663 that propelled him to the title.

The 26-year-old topped the overall classification after he amassed a total of 86 points, finishing 15 clear of his closest rival.

Sándor Liu Shaolin, the oldest of the Liu brothers and reigning 500m world champion, finished second on 71 points after he finished first in the 1,000m event in a time of 1:25.964.

Hungary's Liu also finished second in the Super Final in a time of 5:01.787.

Sjinkie Knegt of The Netherlands completed the top three. 

The Olympic bronze medallist and former world champion finished third in the Super Final in 5:02.029 which secured him a total of 54 points and the bronze medal.

Knegt formed part of the Dutch relay team who were successful in the men's 5,000m team competition.

The Netherlands were victorious in a time of 6:56.809.

Russia were second in the final in 6:56.889 while the hosts Italy rounded out the podium in 7:00.168.
