Matt Wearn of Australia claimed the lead in the laser division on home water as action resumed at the Sailing World Cup Final at Melbourne's St Kilda foreshore today.

Bad weather forced competition to be postponed yesterday as heavy winds, including gusts of 40 knots, prompted organisers to postpone the day's racing.

There is a new leader in the laser competition as Wearn took the top spot from Cyprus' Pavlos Kontides, who won silver at London 2012, after a delayed start.

Wearn claimed victory in both of today's races which has moved him to the top of the standings with two days remaining.

Croatia's Tonci Stipanovic, the Rio 2016 silver medallist, sits in third overall.

Rio 2016 laser radial gold medallist Marit Bouwmeester of The Netherlands extended her advantage over the women's field after adding another two wins today.

Rio bronze medallist Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark is the nearest challenger to the Dutch competitor as she sits seven points adrift, while Italy's Silvia Zennaro is third overall.

Another Dutchman, Kiran Badloe, holds the lead in the men's RS:X windsurfer competition after nine races, while Britain's Tom Squires pushed himself into contention after two wins and a second place finish today.

Badloe has 19 points while Spaniard Ivan Pastor follows behind in second on 28.

Squires completes the top three on 31 before tomorrow's medal race.

Zofia Klepacka of Poland, meanwhile, held on to top spot in the women's division.

Klepacka currently leads on 20 points, in front of China's Manjia Zheng who occupies second on 26.

Spain's Marina Alabau holds the final podium spot on 28 points, one clear of China's Yunxiu Lu.

Following today's action Oliver Bridge still holds the advantage in the formula kite competition having won 18 of 21 races in the qualifying and final series.

The Briton has a 14-point lead over his brother Guy going into tomorrow's three medal races.

Australian brothers Sam and Will Phillips won the 49er class' only race of the day against a diminished field, with just seven out of the 19 entries making the start line or not finishing.

They lead the fleet, with Spain's Diego Botin and Iago Lopez Marra second, trailing by one point.

Benjamin Bildstein and David Hussl of Austria are third by four points after their third place in the race.

After winning the day's opening Nacra 17 race, Australia's Rio 2016 Olympic silver medallists Jason Waterhouse and Lisa Darmanin overcame an equipment malfunction that resulted in them charging back to St Kilda beach midway through the middle race for a quick fix.

They discarded their non-finish and came back to claim second to Olivia Mackay and Micah Wilkinson of New Zealand in the last race of the day.

The Australians still lead on ten points, six clear of their New Zealand rivals.

Australian Jake Lilley thrived in the Melbourne breeze, winning both finn races today.

He leads on six points followed by Britain's Ed Wright and Rio 2016 bronze medallist Caleb Paine of the United States.

Mat Belcher and Will Ryan of Australia continued their dominance by winning both races in the men's 470 event.

In the women's 470, Austrian duo Lara Vadlau and Jolanta Ogar and Australia's Carrie Smith and Jaime Ryan shared a win and a second place apiece.

The RS:X, 49er, 49erFX, Nacra 17 and formula kite fleets will conclude their competition tomorrow (December 10) while the remaining fleets will sail their final races tomorrow before respective medal races on Sunday (December 11).
