Eurosport was named Best Sports Broadcaster for the second year running at the lucrative TV Sports Awards, held alongside SPORTELMonaco here.

The channel, owned by Discovery Communications, also secured the Best Football Rights Deal prize at the star-studded ceremony for their agreement with the Bundesliga.

The four-year deal will see 40 live Bundesliga matches per season shown exclusively on Eurosport from 2017 to 2018.

Eurosport beat off competition from beIN Sports and the European Broadcasting Union to land the Best Sports Broadcaster prize, while they were chosen ahead of La Liga’s deal with beIN Sports and an agreement between LeSports and China Sports Media for the Best Football Rights Deal award.

Eurosport’s successes here last night follow the company being awarded the Best TV Rights Deal at the 2015 TV Sports Awards after they became Europe’s Olympic broadcaster.

The deal is worth around €1.3 billion (£1.2 million/$1.4 billion) and will cover two Olympic cycles following an agreement signed between the International Olympic Committee and Discovery Communications, the parent company of the pan-European television sports network.

It will cover the Pyeongchang 2018 and Tokyo 2020 Olympics, as well as the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games and the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics, which have yet to be awarded to a host city.

"It is a privilege to be awarded Best Sports Broadcaster for the second year running," Eurosport chief executive Peter Hutton said.

"It brings to life how much fans and the sports industry have valued the transformation that is taking place at Eurosport, with our resolute commitment to be more premium and more locally relevant for fans.

"The recognition for Eurosport’s new Bundesliga rights in Germany is a strong example of this philosophy in action, delivering exclusive must-have and highly relevant content to fans.

"We’ve also enjoyed a year of innovation, including being the first sports platform to market with a dedicated Virtual Reality app and increasing our short form content with record breaking films such as The Commissioner of Football featuring Eric Cantona.

"They’ll certainly be much more to come, as we become the home of the Olympic Games and continue to share the premium sport content fans really care about."

The second edition of the TV Sports Awards, held at the glittering Fairmont Hotel and which is co-organised by the charity Play for Change, also saw Wanda Sports take home the Agency of the Year award ahead of MP and Silva and WME | IMG.

Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches of Portugal was given the Golden Boy Award, which recognises a talented young footballer under 21-years-old, who is registered with a European club in the top division and who has best established himself in the past year.

English duo Marcus Rashford and Dele Alli, who play their club football for Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, AC Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma, Sanches’ team-mate Kingsley Coman and Ousmane Dembélé of Borussia Dortmund were also nominated.
