Ivan Mikulic from Croatia has regained his position as world number one following his gold medal in the men's K44 over-75 kilogram division in Poland's capital.

Amy Truesdale from Britain has also regained her position as world number one, after winning gold in the women's K44 over-58kg category.

Mehmet Sami Sarac of Turkey won the final of the men’s K42 under-61kg division against number one ranked Iranian Saeid Sadeghianpour and has risen to number two as a result.

In the men's K42 over-75kg, world number one Nyshan Omrali from Kazakhstan was beaten by Azerbaijan's Alexandr Polishuk in Warsaw and has lost his number one status to him as well.

"This year has been fantastic for Para-taekwondo," said WTF President Chungwon Choue.

"The fifth Open European Para Taekwondo Championships was an historic event and showed that the sport continues to grow around the world.

"We still have so much more to achieve and we are working hard to make sure that we realise our potential."

The final Para-taekwondo event of the year will be the second Oceania Para Taekwondo Open Championships, which will be held in Suva, Fiji, between November 27 and 28.

A record-breaking 132 athletes from 30 countries and four continents took part in the European Championships in Warsaw on September 16.

A Para-taekwondo refugee athlete also competed at the Championships for the very first time.

The event included poomsae classes for the first time, which attracted 26 athletes to the competition. 

Turkey finished on top of the women’s medals table, followed by Russia and Denmark, while an additional nine countries earned medals.

In the men's competition it was Russia who were victorious followed by Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The sport is building to its Paralympic debut at Tokyo 2020.
