Soccerex founder Duncan Revie, the son of former England and Leeds United manager Don, has died at the age of 62.

The Convention, which was established back in 1995, confirmed Revie had passed away following a short illness.

Revie founded Soccerex as a way of connecting the industry and enhancing the game’s commercial potential along with wife Rita, and it has grown into the market leading football conference.

The announcement of Revie’s death was made after the latest edition of the Convention, held from last Monday (September 26) to Wednesday (September 28), where speakers included FIFA secretary general Fatma Samoura and Manchester Mayoral candidate Andy Burnham.

“This has come as a tremendous shock to us all,” Soccerex chairman Tony Martin said.

“Duncan was revered throughout the global football industry.

“His vision, drive and determination established the Soccerex brand in 1995.

“It was his passion and commitment which took the conference across the globe and developed it into the world's most influential football business networking conference.

“He was a most special man and football is a much poorer place without him."

Since it was established, Revie, wife Rita and chairman Martin had led Soccerex at 39 events spanning five continents.

Revie coined the idea to set up Soccerex after he attended a similar business event, entitled “In the City", which focused on the music industry, in 1995.

He had been given exposure into the commercial potential of the game by father Don, who earned six caps for his country as a player before he was appointed manager of England in 1974 following a 13-year stint with Leeds.

Don Revie led Duncan onto the pitch at Elland Road, the home of Leeds United, in the 1970s and described how one day the stadium would be full of hospitality boxes and sponsors - a prediction which would be proved right.

Duncan Revie leaves his wife and two children, Aidan and Natalie.

“Everybody at Leeds United football club was incredibly saddened to learn of the recent passing of Duncan Revie, the son of the most successful manager in the club's history, Don Revie,” Leeds United said in a statement.

“As a mark of respect to Duncan, we will be holding a minute's applause ahead of kick-off at this Saturday's Yorkshire derby with Barnsley.”
