Los Angeles 2024 have released a video of 12,800 new students moving into University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) accommodation over a single weekend, in a bid to highlight the ability to use the facilities as an Athletes’ Village for the Olympic Games.

Dubbed an "early dress rehearsal" of the Olympic and Paralympic Village opening, Los Angeles 2024 have hailed an "easy and trouble-free" move in for the students at the university.

It is claimed that the use of existing facilities and staff at the campus will ensure a greater focus can be placed on enhancing the athletes’ experience, should the American city be successful with its 2024 bid.

UCLA's Olympic gold medallists Dawn Harper-Nelson and Kyla Ross helped the students move into various suites on the campus.

The housing, dining and athletic facilities are shown throughout the duration of the video, with Los Angeles 2024 claiming they have played a "key role" in attracting the most accomplished students and athletes from around the world.

"The housing, dining and sports facilities at UCLA are ideal both for athletes and students," said Harper-Nelson, a Los Angeles 2024 Athletes’ Commission member and the Beijing 2008 100 metres hurdles gold medallist.

"UCLA facilities are world-class and convenient, reducing the need for athletes in 2024 to travel beyond the Village or competition venue.

"With all the personalised and high-tech services that UCLA and Los Angeles 2024 can offer, I know athletes from every nation will feel at home at the Los Angeles 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Villages and will be ready to realise their dreams."

A total of 16,000 residents will live in the UCLA’s housing facilities for the forthcoming academic year.

A "professional staff, security and operational structure" serves the thousands of guests every year.

The UCLA refurbish their housing facilities every seven years, which would see all accommodation having undergone at least one round of renovations by 2024.

Los Angeles 2024 claim that their Games plan would see the Olympic and Paralympic Village incorporate an on-site main athlete training centre, providing "extensive integrated training facilities" within the same secure perimeter as the accommodation complex.

Further temporary facilities would also be used to supplement the existing ones in the Village, while with eight restaurants being placed on campus, organisers claim they have the capacity to meet and exceed athletes’ nutritional needs in 2024.

"On behalf of Los Angeles 2024, we want to congratulate UCLA and its residential staff for their flawless operation to move-in thousands of residents over a few days, just as we would do for the 2024 Games," said Casey Wasserman, Los Angeles 2024 chairman.

"We like to think of this as LA 2024’s early dress rehearsal for the Olympic and Paralympic Village opening, and it is a tremendous boost to have this unique opportunity as a bid city.

"Every year, thousands of students eat, sleep, study and play on UCLA’s gorgeous and state-of-the-art campus, and are given all the tools they need to succeed academically and athletically.

"We are honoured to partner with UCLA to offer athletes the best and most personalised Games experience in history, should we be awarded the honour of hosting the 2024 Games."

Los Angeles is bidding against Budapest and Paris for the rights to host the Games in eight years time - with Rome technically still in the race but nearly certain to drop out after the city's Mayor Virginia Raggi withdrew her support.

The International Olympic Committee are due to elect a host city in Peruvian capital Lima on September 13 next year.
