A day of introductory sporting events for young children has taken place in Swaziland, with support from a Taiwanese charity as well as the country's National Olympic Committee.

Youngsters from Manyonyaneni Primary School in the landlocked African nation came together for a day of activities including kick volleyball and a combination of sprinting, slalom and relay running.

More traditional events were also carried-out including tug of war and egg and spoon races.

Support came from the Swaziland Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association (SOCGA) as well as from the Taiwan Fund for Children and Families.

"We are still visiting more schools and we had another long day of physical and exciting activities at Mahlangatja Methodist Primary School," the SOCGA said in a message posted on their official Facebook page.

Such events are seen as a key was to introducing young people to sport with an eye to finding future top athletes as well as boosting general fitness levels.

Swaziland has participated at 11 Olympic Games since Munich 1972 but are yet to win a medal.

The country sent a two-strong team of sprinters to last month's Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Phumlile Ndzinisa participated in the heats of the women's 100 metres while Sibusiso Matsenjwa did likewise in the 200m.
