The IOC’s membership-at-large is due to decide on Wednesday (August 3) whether karate, baseball softball, surfing, skateboarding and sport climbing should be added to the programme for Tokyo 2020.

All five sports are expected to be given the green light at the Session, which takes place ahead of the Olympic Games in the Brazilian city.

The World Karate Federation (WKF), who have masterminded the bid for Olympic inclusion at Tokyo 2020, are now asking karate supporters across the globe to get behind their efforts by sending pictures and videos to the governing body.

They are calling on entrants to submit one of three pictures along with a brief message as to why they love the sport.

These include using the universal karate greeting “Oss!” - considered an affirmation of positive attitude, high spirit and refusing to quit, a key mantra in the sport - as well as “I support”.

Fans are also encouraged to send their own personalised greeting alongside the template of “Karate: Proposed by Tokyo 2020”.

Those who post messages to the WKF will have the chance to be one of the “images of karate in its quest for Tokyo 2020”, according to the governing body.

The best pictures and videos submitted will feature on the WKF’s various social media channels, including Facebook and Twitter, in the build-up to the vital IOC decision.

The most creative images will form part of a special poster wall which is set to be exhibited during October’s World Karate Championships in Linz in Austria.
