Nutritionist Mariyam Najla has led a two-day seminar in Maldives aimed at giving all professional level female athletes advice on sports nutrition.

The seminar was arranged by the Maldives Olympic Committee’s women’s commission, with the event held in two phases between June 14 and 15.

Najla explained the importance of good nutrition to the athletes present at the seminar, with a particularly focus on athletes.

She focused on how not eating properly could affect an athlete’s performance and aimed to strengthen their knowledge of energy and performance.

Weight control, hydration and after-game concerns were other areas discussed by Najla during the educational and interactive seminar.

Over 30 athletes from table tennis, volleyball, handball and netball participated in the first day, with the session lasting for around two hours.

The second day saw athletes from the sports of athletics, badminton, tennis and swimming in attendance.

Athletes were given further information at the close of each session, which they would be able to immediately start putting into practice.
