Defending champion Damien Seguin began the defence of his Para World Sailing Championships title in style with two victories in Medemblik.

The Frenchman looks like the man to beat in the 2.4m again after his dominant day on Dutch water.

It was the same 1-2-3 in both races with Germany's Heiko Kroeger collecting a pair of second places and Matt Bugg of Australia doubling up in third.

"You never know what can happen in a World Championship," said Seguin.

"I know I am very fast in these weather conditions but it was not easy on the water and I am really happy tonight to have won both races.”

In the sonar, Great Britain's defending champions John Robertson, Hannah Stodel and Steve Thomas made an equally impressive start with a pair of victories.

Australia's Colin Harrison, Jonathan Harris and Russell Boaden are second overall after finishing third in race one and second in race two.

France's Bruno Jourdren, Eric Flageul and Nicolas Vimont-Vicary sit in bronze medal position after coming second first up and then fourth.

"The fleet is super competitive, but the usual top suspects were up there today - us, the Australians, the Norwegians, the French," said Thomas.

"We were all battling it out from the start.”

In the SKUD18 class, defending world champions Dan Fitzgibbon and Liesel Tesch of Australia won the first race but were seventh second time around.

That means they sit third overall, with Britain's Alexandra Rickham and Niki Birrell leading the way after winning race two.

The five-time world champions were third in race one with Poland's Monika Gibes and Piotr Cichocki second overall after a pair of runners-up finishes.

Action continues in The Netherlands tomorrow.
