Russia’s Vera Muratova and Poland’s Marzena Zieba both claimed European records in the women's up to 79kg and up to 86kg events respectively.

Muratova’s teammate Petr Filatov then also set a new European mark as he dominated the men's over 107kg category.

Zieba added 7kg onto the European record to take the European title with 127kg although it was only good enough for Open silver as China’s Ruifang Li, not eligible for the European prize, lifted 133kg for overall glory.

The win sees Li maintain a 100 per cent podium record, having only made her international debut at the Asian Open Championships in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in July, where she won silver.

Dutch lifter Melaica Tuinfort managed 123kg to claim European silver and Open bronze and Russia’s Svetlana Khairtdinova was third on the European podium with a lift of 117kg.

Muratova's competition ended similarly to Zieba's, with her new record only being enough for the European title.

She added 16kg onto the old record with a 124kg haul but was behind Chinese Taipei’s world champion Tzu-Hui Lin who won the Open gold with 127kg.

Ukraine’s Lyubov Semenyuk lifted 106kg and finished with European silver and Open bronze, with Russia’s Nadezhda Sycheva rounding off the European podium with a lift of 90kg.

Filatov broke the European record with a second attempt of 225kg, before going on to add to it again with a third round flourish of 228kg.

In doing so the 27-year-old did enough for both Open and European gold.

Egypt’s Amr Mosaad left it until the final round to complete his 222kg best and pinch Open silver.

Hungary’s Sandor Sas lifted 216kg to claim European silver and Open bronze, ahead of the slightly heavier Konstantinous Dimou who recorded 216kg for European bronze.

In the women’s up to 86kg discipline, Fengmi Li lifted 120kg to make it two Open golds for China.

Two good lifts allowed Li to secure victory over Russia’s Olga Kazankevich, whose 115kg was enough to make her the European champion and Open silver medallist.

Haifa Naqbi of the United Arab Emiratees took Open bronze with 110kg.

China finished the event on top of the medals table with 11 golds, four silvers and two bronzes.

The highest European finishers were Russia with nine medals, including three golds.
