Former FIFA Presidential candidate Luis Figo of Portugal will join several sporting world champions at the upcoming SPORTELMonaco convention in Monte Carlo, it has been announced.

Figo, who initially vowed to challenge incumbent Sepp Blatter for the FIFA Presidency before pulling out of the race ahead of the vote in Zurich in May, scored 32 goals in 127 international appearances during his football career.

He also enjoyed spells at Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid and has been confirmed as a special guest for the event.

Beijing 2008 Olympic Games high jump gold medallist Tia Hellebaut, from Belgium, will also be in attendance at the convention, which takes place from October 12 to 15 at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco.

Muriel Hurtis, who won 4x100 metres gold for France at the World Athletics Championships in 2003, is scheduled to attend, alongside compatriot René Jacquot, a multiple boxing world champion.

French judoka Loïc Pietri, under 81 kilograms world champion in 2013, will form part of the Golden Podium Awards jury, which recognises the best sporting videos over the past year, and he will be joined by Cameroon's heavyweight world boxing champion Carlos Takam.

2015 Motocross World Championship winner Romain Fevbre, also of France, is listed as a guest for SPORTELMonaco 2015 and will be in attendance during the event.

French tennis player Michael Llodra, who took silver in the men’s doubles competition at London 2012 alongside Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, is also a guest of the convention.

Rugby will have a strong presence at SPORTELMonaco 2015 too, with Dan Huger, a member of England’s 2003 Rugby World Cup winning team, and French internationals Yoann Huget and Daniel Herrero all scheduled to attend.

The convention itself, considered the most important for sports business people which allows for some of the industry’s most important figureheads to network and discuss business plans, will feature a series of talks and workshops.

The inaugural TV Sports Awards will take place this year as will the SPORTEL Awards, which include the Sports Book Competition and the Golden Podium Competition.

Back in August, SPORTEL revealed 99 per cent of the exhibition at their convention in Monte Carlo had sold out, with more than 1,200 participants already signed up.
