Kazakhstan's world bronze medalist Kayrat Yeraliyev got his campaign off to a perfect start wth a closely contested victory on the fifth day of action at the ASBC Asian Confederation Boxing Championships in Bangkok today.

Yeraliyev, number one seed in the bantamweight division, was made to work hard before overcoming Philippines' Mario Fernandez.

After getting the better of his rival with greater intent and pressure in the first round, Fernandez' power caused problems in the second.

The class of Yeraliyev eventually told, however, as sealed the victory in the third and final round.

It was a day of Thai success elsewhere, as another 2013 World Championships bronze medallist, flyweight Chatchai Butdeebut, overcame Iraq’s Jaafar Abdulredha Ali Al-Sudani.

Two-time Olympian Saylom Ardee eliminated South Korea’s National Sport Festival winner Lee Seung Hyeon at welterweight, before a third host nation triumph was delivered by Aphisit Kanankhokkhruea, edging a tight middleweight batle over Kyrgyzstan’s Azamat Kanybek Uulu.

On a disappointing day for Kyrgyzstan, light flyweight medal prospect Rakhmankul Avatov was beaten by Philippines' Southeast Asian Games silver medallist Rogen Ladon.

Uzbekistan’s Gwangju 2015 Universiade winner Hasanboy Dusmatov was another winner as he overcame Kazakhstan's Temirtas Zhusupov in the light flyweight, the first time a Kazakh fighter had been beaten at these Championships.
