The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) has announced it has begun an initiative to install a quality management system at its Sports Directorate.

The scheme, which is being planned and organised by the strategic planning directorate alongside all other directorates of the committee, is being set up in order to improve the way the staff at the BOC work.

Strategic planning director Hasan Abdullatif has revealed the first stage of the project is complete, which included a series of workshops led by experts in the field of quality management systems.

These were aimed at the executive directorate as well as other committee staff.

Further workshops with other members and directorates related to the committee will also be held, Abdullatif confirmed, and the second stage will see a strategic alignment of all actions within the BOC with the terms of the system.

Abdullatif also confirmed the main reasons for implementing the project, which include “adjusting procedures within the organisation and sporting terms and standardisation of work procedures”.

It is hoped the system will allow for better workflow among the BOC to ensure they keep clients and beneficiaries happy, both at home and abroad.

“The quality system depends on actions and not individuals, which means continuity of work in the absence of some responsible individuals, as it relies on teamwork,” Abdullatif said.

The BOC will aim to use the initiative to continually improve their working practices, as well as the quality of performance and creativity.

The development follows the beginning of the National Coaching Programme level two course, organised by the BOC’s Sports Training and Development Centre.

The course attracted 32 participants from various different countries including Bahrain and Saudi Arabia, who represented sports such as football, basketball, athletics, swimming, gymnastics, volleyball, handball and physical fitness.
