Favourites The Netherlands secured yet another women’s wheelchair tennis BNP Paribas World Team Cup title after a 2-0 victory over Japan in Antalya.

Action was delayed in the Turkish resort for three hours following heavy rain but, once proceedings got underway, there was no stopping the dominant Dutch as the European side wrapped up the title without even requiring a decisive doubles rubber.

In a final featuring the world's top three ranked singles players, world number three Aniek van Koot gave her side the perfect platform by battling past Kanako Domiri, 6-3, 6-3 in the opening rubber.

With world number one Yui Kamiji up for Japan in the second match, that victory was vital for The Netherlands, but second ranked Jiske Griffioen then produced a superb performance to defeat Kamiji, 6-4, 6-3, and secure a 2-0 victory.

It continued their utter dominance in the event, with the team having won 28 times in the event's 30 year history.

The dominant duo were joined by former world number one junior Diede De Groot, previously a member of successful Dutch World Team Cup junior teams, who had played a key role in partnering her two experienced team mates to doubles victories in the earlier rounds.

“We are very happy," said a delighted Griffioen afterwards.

"It is still really good to win as [a] team.

"I know we have won lots before but it’s Diede's [de Groot] first time and we are happy to have a new member on the team and to have had a good week together.”

Fourth seeded Britain secured the final place on the podium after a slightly surprising 2-0 win over second-seeded Germany in the bronze medal match.

World number nine Lucy Shuker won the first eight games of the opening singles rubber against Bianca Osterer before Osterer was forced to retire due to injury.

Fifth ranked Jordanne Whiley then battled to a superb and hard fought 7-5, 7-5 victory over eighth ranked Katharina Kruger to claim the spoils.

Britain have a chance to gain more success over the weekend in the men's event, with the top seeds reaching their first final, after defying both the rain and their Japanese opponents with a 2-0 victory.

They will face France in the final on Sunday (May 31) after the three-time defending champions overcame Australia 2-0 in the second semi-final.

United States will face Japan in the quad final tomorrow, while Israel face Italy for bronze.
