The symposium, which was attended by more than 35 participants - including representatives of the 2017 World Outgames, took place during the Sin City Shootout sports tournament in Las Vegas and covered possible schedules of future events and "the need for cooperation of international organisations".

"Potential solutions looked at ways to increase the involvement of the international sports and culture community in areas of the world where the need for greater LGBT acceptance is a major concern; as well as ways to enhance visibility for sports with high regional impact," meeting facilitator Race Cowgill said.

The FGG said the Gay and Lesbian International Sports Association (GLISA) - with which it has been trying to reopen discussions on a single combined quadrennial event after the two organisations failed to reach an agreement in 2012 - and GLISA North America were also invited to the meeting.

Daniel Vaudrin, President of GLISA, said in November last year that it has set a deadline of June 30, 2014 for an agreement with FGG to "ensure that we can continue developing our grassroots movement on every continent and make our community even stronger".

The discussions will now continue at the annual European Gay and Lesbian Sport Federation (EGLSF) meeting in Ljubljana, Slovenia, on March 7 until -9.
