Melissa StockwellNovember 2 - Paratriathlete Melissa Stockwell of the United States heads the five-strong shortlist for October's International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athlete of the Month prize.

The 2012 Para-Triathlon World Championships in Auckland was the premier event on the calendar last month and Stockwell, an Iraqi war veteran, won her third consecutive world title in the women's TRI-2 class to put down an early marker for Rio 2016 when the sportmakes its debut on the Paralympic programme.

Stockwell is joined on the list by fellow paratriathlete Yannick Bourseaux of France who won the world title in the men's TRI-4 class.

It comes despite the fact that Bourseaux is predominantly a winter sport athlete that is training to qualify for Sochi 2014 Paralympics in nordic skiing.

Also named is Swiss wheelchair racer Marcel Hug, who won his third straight Oita Marathon in the men's T34/53/54 class shortly after winning the Berlin Marathon.
