February 27 - ScotRail has been announced as the latest sponsor of this year's Commonwealth Games ©ScotRailGlasgow 2014 organisers today announced ScotRail as the latest firm to join the sponsor family of the Commonwealth Games.

The train operator will be responsible for delivering an enhanced Games timetable of high frequency services on key routes across the city, delivering high numbers of spectators to major venues and associated events.

ScotRail, which operates around 95 per cent of Scotland's railway, will also provide increased capacity on long-distance trains linking Glasgow with other parts of Scotland.

"We warmly welcome ScotRail to the Glasgow 2014 sponsor family," said Glasgow 2014 chief executive David Grevemberg.

"This summer's Commonwealth Games will see over 6,500 athletes and officials come to Glasgow for 11 days of fantastic competition that will put Glasgow and Scotland on the world stage.

"The city will be bustling with activity and with ScotRail's additional services supporting Games spectators, and their highly trained staff greeting hundreds of thousands of new visitors to the city, I'm sure that we will deliver an outstanding Games experience that everyone can enjoy."

ScotRail was a supporter of Glasgow's bid for the Commonwealth Games and transport on its services within designated Glasgow city boundaries will be included in the price of the ticket for Glasgow 2014 spectators.

More than 3,000 ScotRail staff are undergoing specialist "World Host" customer service training ahead of the Games.

"It is a tremendous privilege to be working at the heart of Glasgow 2014 as an official supporter," said Steve Montgomery, managing director of ScotRail, which is also set to become an official supporter of Team Scotland as part of the agreement.

"Our team is excited to be so closely involved, and to be providing rail passengers with the best possible services during an exceptionally busy period for the railway and the wider transport system."

The train operator says it expects to deliver more than one million passenger journeys over the 11 days of the Games which is due to run from July 23 to August 3.

"I am pleased to welcome ScotRail to the growing Games family of sponsors committed to delivering the best ever Commonwealth Games," said Commonwealth Games Minister Shona Robison.

"The extra train services planned and specialist training for staff will give spectators and visitors a great service and a warm welcome, helping people enjoy the Games experience."
