The company, which specialises in the design, planning, installation and support of high-performance cabling systems, will be responsible for the installation of over 3,000 individual cable outlets and over 100 kilometres of fibre optic cabling, across the 14 Games venues including the Athletes Village.

"I am delighted to welcome Boston Networks as the latest addition to our growing sponsor family," said Ty Speer, deputy chief executive of Glasgow 2014.

"It is pleasing to see a local company taking such a strong involvement and the role they play will be an essential one.

"Having the right technology is key to helping deliver the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games."

Boston Networks, which claims to be a UK leader in the wireless solutions market, was founded in 2000 and also has offices in Edinburgh, Gateshead and Bolton.

All cabling for the Games will be installed on a temporary basis and will be removed and recycled once the event is finished.

However, individual venues have the option to install the cabling system on a permanent basis.

"Boston Networks is thrilled to be working with Glasgow 2014 as its official cabling services integrator," said Scott McEwan, the firm's chief executive.

"As a locally based and fully Scottish owned company, we are delighted that the Games are being hosted in our hometown of Glasgow.

"As a business we are wholly committed to fully utilising our technical and local knowledge to make a positive impact on the successful staging of what is set to be one of the world's greatest sporting events."
