August 5 - Diadora 1Italian sportswear manufacturer Diadora has been named as the official supplier of competition, training and delegation wear to the Australian team taking part at next year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Australian Commonwealth Games Association (ACGA) has agreed a deal with the Overland Group, Diadora's exclusive Australian distributor and licensee, for the Italian brand to become the official supplier to the team's athletes and officials at the Games, which is due to take place between July 23 and August 3.

It ends a relationship with Adidas stretching back more than a decade.

They had provided the official team kit for Australia's Commonwealth Games team at Manchester 2002, Melbourne 2006 and New Delhi 2010.

"Diadora is an international brand that has worked with some of the world's top athletes so it understands what is needed to provide high quality competition and training wear," said ACGA chief executive Perry Crosswhite.

"We look forward to working with Diadora and thank Bill [Tyson, managing director Overland Group] and the company for their outstanding support of the 2014 Australian team which will compete in Glasgow next year."

Diadora promised it will oversee the production of the ACGA team's uniform from its Australian headquarters in Melbourne, adding that it will draw on its Italian heritage to influence the design process and styling of the Team Australia kit.

Tyson welcomed the new partnership.

"Diadora is honoured to have been chosen as the official supplier of competition, training and delegation wear to the 2014 Australian Commonwealth Games team," he said.

"We look forward to the great challenge of outfitting Australia's best athletes in Glasgow next year.

"We hope the long tradition of Australia's success at the Commonwealth Games continues and as a result, that we see plenty of Diadora on the winner's podium in Scotland."

German sportswear giants Adidas will continue to play a leading role in sport Down Under, however, as Australian Olympic Committee (AOC) signed an agreement with the company in 2005 to become the official team supplier for Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.
