Scottish drinks manufacturer to mark Glasgow 2014 with special edition cans

February 16 - Iconic Scottish soft drinks manufacturer Irn-Bru is launching a special range of cans to mark its sponsorship of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year. The cans will link with the company's 112-year sporting heritage with its association with Glasgow 2014.
The first can, which will appear on the shelves in March, will feature Adam Brown, a former Highland Games champion who was the first sportsman to endorse Irn-Bru, which is made by A.G. Barr of Glasgow and can trace its heritage back to 1830 when it was set up in Falkirk as a cork-cutting business.
The campaign will be supported by posters and display units that will appear in shops alongside the cans.
"Interest in the 2014 Commonwealth Games is already extremely high, particularly after the success of London 2012, and this is a chance for retailers to play their part in the build-up to an event anticipated to attract one million spectators and a global TV audience of 1.5 billion," Adrian Troy, the marketing director of A.G. Barr, told The Grocer.
Irn-Bru has always been praised for its marketing campaign, the most famous which was probably the line "Made In Scotland From Girders".
"We know shoppers love special packs from Irn-Bru - in 2009 we sold four million special edition Heritage cans in just four weeks," said Troy.
