The 25-year-old made history when she defeated France's European champion Clarisse Agbegnenou by ippon in the final of the women's under 63 kilogram final at the Maracanãzinho Gymnasium.

She has now decided to donate the money raised from selling the red backpatch which accompanied her en route to winning that world title to children with cancer at the Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

"A few weeks ago I visited the children's ward at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and met with some amazing children," she said.

Gerbi added: "I have decided to sell the name back-tag that accompanied me to win the gold at the Judo World Championships.

"This red back-tag signifies the 2013 World Championship.

"Included with the tag will be a dedication and my signature.

"I will donate the money to the Children's Ward at Ichilov Hospital.

"Let's help these kids become champions too!"

The item is currently on ebay where it sits at a price of $1,275 (£795.8/€1,008.5) after 40 bids.
