The condoms will be available at three key London 2012 locations: the Athletes' Village a tOlympic Park, Stratford; the sailing venue accommodation at Weymouth and Portland; and the rowing venue accommodation at Royal Holloway College in Egham.

However, the condom packets will not feature the official London 2012 logos or the Durex logos because Durex is a supplier for the Games rather than a partner.

"The condoms will be available in dispensers and will have a sexual health message on the packaging and a website address for further information," a London 2012 spokesperson told insidethegames.

"We are still working through the detail with Durex, such as exact numbers. "

At the Sydney 2000 Olympics, organisers thought that 70,000 condoms would be enough, but they underestimated demand and had to order 20,000 more.

Beijing ordered 100,000 condoms for the 2008 Olympics, as did Vancouver for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

It is the second time that Durex will perform the role at the Olympic Games after they supplied 130,000 condoms to athletes at the Athens in 2004.

The International Olympic Committee is also involved as they help to run HIV and AIDS information campaigns for the athletes in the Olympic Village.
