simon_langford_ge_05-09-111In this, our first sponsor 123 feature, we put Simon Langford, GE UK's manager of corporate communications for London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, and city infrastructure programme under the spotlight to get his views on the Olympic and Paralympic Movement.

What is your role in GE's involvement of the Games?

I am tasked with ensuring that GE's 300,000 employees worldwide, and across many different businesses, are aware and excited by GE's involvement in the Games, while telling GE's story to our customers, the press and the public wherever they may be, off and online.

I also lead the British Triathlon sponsorship and activation, attending events, encouraging employees to take part and making the most of partnering with a great sport and Federation.

Why does GE support the Games?

The Olympic Games provide a unique opportunity to showcase GE's innovative technologies and services.

Hosting a successful Olympic Games is a transformational opportunity for every host city, and we are committed to working with the IOC and the local Organising Committees to deliver world-class infrastructure solutions and a sustainable legacy to future generations.

What is your favourite Games' memory?

I have great memories of many heroes performing outstandingly over the years, but I was so excited to meet Daley Thompson in August this year at the triathlon test event in Hyde Park, and he was absolutely the best when I was growing up, with my first memory of the Olympics from 1984.

Daley Thompson_at_Los_Angeles_Olympics_August_1_1984I've been privileged to spend some time with the British triathletes over the last two years, and can't wait to see them set the world alight in 2012.
