A virtual China House, designed to promote the spirit of Chinese Olympians, while also providing an introduction to Beijing 2022, has been launched to coincide with the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The virtual China House, which can be accessed by mobile devices, features an exhibition on the theme of "Experience Beijing Through China House."

The online exhibition includes Olympic news, details of the Chinese national team’s preparations and an introduction to the 2022 Winter Olympics, scheduled to be held in Beijing from February 4 to 20 2022.

The Chinese Olympic Committee (COC) described the virtual China House as an "experiment" but is pleased at the positive response it has received since it went live to coincide with the start of Tokyo 2020.

Deputy director of the COC’s marketing department Wang Mingyan said: "The online 'China House' has gained huge popularity, with more than 10,000 page views within three days of its launch."

The COC reported the virtual China House had received overseas visitors from countries including the United States, Britain, Canada, Austria, Japan and South Korea, while it has also been praised by both the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee.

China House was first established during the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics but has been forced to switch to a virtual format during Tokyo 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.

It is hoped that following Tokyo 2020 some in-person services provided by China House can resume.
