Teams representing World Taekwondo, based in South Korea, and the North Korean-led International Taekwondo Federation (ITF) will perform in three cities - Lausanne, Geneva and Vienna.

International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach is due to be in attendance at a demonstration at the Olympic Museum here on April 11.

Vienna, home of the ITF's headquarters, will host the first event on April 5.

The two teams will also hold an exhibition of the sport at the United Nations offices in Geneva on April 12, with the events being staged under the theme of "One World, One Taekwondo".

It marks the latest example of cooperation between World Taekwondo and the ITF, who signed an agreement last year to increase their collaboration.

"I am delighted that the ITF has agreed to join WT in celebrating the power of taekwondo to unite people around the world," said World Taekwondo President Chungwon Choue. 

"The three, high-profile events in Switzerland and Austria will coincide with the anniversary of taekwondo’s inclusion on the Olympic programme, which has helped spread the message of taekwondo around the world."

Joint demonstrations involving North Korean and South Korean taekwondo practitioners were held in April and October of last year, as well as at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Taekwondo was officially granted inclusion on the Olympic programme for Sydney 2000 at the IOC Session in Paris in 1994.

The sport made its debut as a demonstration sport at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul.
