Mikuru Suzuki became the first Japanese player to lift the darts world title after winning the women’s final at the British Darts Organisation Darts World Championship today.

Suzuki faced the challenge of top seed Lorraine Winstanley in the final of the competition at Frimley Green in England.

The Japanese player, who came through qualifying to reach the main draw, produced a dominant performance at the Lakeside Country Club.

The 36-year-old from Takamatsu secured a 3-0 victory over her opponent to claim the title.

In the men’s competition, ninth seed Scott Waites booked his place in tomorrow’s final.

The Englishman earned a 4-0 lead in the early stages of his semi-final match against Michael Unterbuchner from Germany.

He eventually sealed a 6-1 victory to take a step closer to claiming the world title.

Waites, a two-time winner, will face the challenge of England's defending champion Glen Durrant tomorrow.

Durrant, who is seeking to win the title for the third successive year, overcame Wales' Jim Williams 6-3 in his semi-final match.
