Three-time world champion Dane Jackson of the United States booked his place in the men's K1 final in style as he topped the standings after the two semi-finals at the International Canoe Federation Canoe Freestyle World Cup in Sort.

Jackson, who won his third world title in Argentina last year, was far too strong for the rest of the field as he top scored with a total of 1,225 points in the Spanish city.

The American's score was nearly 350 points ahead of second-placed kayaker Tomasz Czaplicki of Poland, who registered 876.67 points.

Kazuya Matsunaga of Japan came third with 720 points, while Joaquim Fontane of Spain was fourth on a total of 666.67.

Fontane's compatriot Oriol Colome added to the Spanish success as he sealed the last available spot in tomorrow's final with 590 points.

Britain's Gavin Barker finished in the dreaded sixth place having recorded a score of 558.33 points.

The event, which concludes tomorrow, is the first Canoe Freestyle World Cup of the season.

The second begins at the same venue immediately after the end of the campaign opener.
