International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Ivan Dibos of Peru and Azerbaijan Taekwondo Federation President Kamaladdin Heydarov have both been appointed to the World Taekwondo Council by the organisation's President Chungwon Choue.

Choue has also appointed four Council members, including Anthony Ferguson and Angelo Cito, the Presidents of the Trinidad and Tobago and Italian Taekwondo Federations respectively.

Completing the list is IOC member Aicha Garad Ali of Djibouti and the former President of the Aruba Taekwondo Association, Marliu de Veer.

Dibos, Heydarov, Ferguson and Ali are all re-appointees, while Cito and De Veer are new appointees.

The appointments were made under World Taekwondo statute 6.6, which gives the World Taekwondo President the power to appoint certain officials, taking into account distribution of gender, continental representation and special skills and qualifications.

"As we move into a new Olympic cycle, refocus on making World Taekwondo as athlete-centric as possible and upgrade our humanitarian activities, these appointments finalise our leadership team for the near future," Choue said.

"The latest appointments arm World Taekwondo with a diverse range of skills, talents, contacts and voices, which when unified under the World Taekwondo Council, will help our organisation achieve its ambitious goals."

Twelve World Taekwondo Council members and two auditors were either elected or re-elected at the organisation’s General Assembly, held in June prior to the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships in Muju in South Korea.

The trio of Council member representatives for Asia are Chinese Taipei's An-Chin Hsu, South Korea's Kook Hyun Jung and Jordan's Hazem Ahmad Awwad Naimat.

Spain's Jesus Castellanos Pueblas, Turkey's Metin Sahin and Russia's Anatoly K. Terekhov are Europe’s representatives, while Guatemala's Maria Borello, Canada's Inseon Kim and Mexico's Juan Manuel Lopez Delgado make up the Pan America threesome.

Completing the line-up are Africa's Driss El Hilali of Morocco and Issaka Ide of Niger and Oceania's Tae Kyung-kim of New Zealand.

The only two newly-elected members were Hsu and Kim at the expense of the outgoing Mohamed A.K. Al-Sulaiti of Qatar and Daiwon Moon of Mexico respectively.

Turkey’s Ali Sagirkaya and Croatia’s Dalibor Krpan were re-elected as auditors.

The World Taekwondo Athletes Committee also elected Jordan’s Nadin Dewani and France’s Pascal Gentil as chairpersons during the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships.

Dewani is a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission and the first Jordanian to win an Asian title, while Gentil is a four-time World Cup champion, three-time European champion and two-time Olympic medallist.

Both become automatic members of the World Taekwondo Council with four-year terms.

Additionally, the current Presidents of World Taekwondo’s Continental Unions were all re-elected at the General Assembly.

They are General Ahmad Fouly of the African Taekwondo Union, Kyu-seok Lee of the Asian Taekwondo Union, Sakis Pragalos of the European Taekwondo Union, John Kotsifas of the Oceania Taekwondo Union and Ji Ho Choi of the Pan American Taekwondo Union.

All have become automatic vice-presidents of World Taekwondo.
