Argentina finished top of Group A with four wins out of four ©FIBA

Reigning champions Canada and hosts Argentina both picked up wins today to complete their respective group campaigns at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Women's AmeriCup with undefeated records.

Canada clinched top spot in Group B with an 86-64 win over Paraguay at the Estadio Obras Sanitarias in Buenos Aires.

There was very little to separate the two teams at the midway point with the score standing at 41-37 in Canada’s favour but the holders took control thereafter with a 45-27 half.

Niarra Fields led the way for Canada with 25 points.

Awaiting the Canadians in the semi-finals are Group A runners-up Brazil, who lost 68-49 to South American rivals Argentina today.

Argentina were led offensively by 18 points from Debora Gonzalez as they finished top of Group A with four wins out of four.

Their opponents in the penultimate round are Group B runners-up Puerto Rico, who completed their campaign yesterday.

The semi-finals are due to be played on Saturday (August 12) following a rest day tomorrow.

The final and third-place play-off are scheduled for Sunday (August 13).

Three spots are on offer for next year's FIBA Women's World Cup in Spain.

Today’s other matches saw Cuba beat Mexico 62-51 in Group B and Colombia defeat Venezuela 62-59 in Group A.

All four of those teams have been eliminated along with the Virgin Islands and Paraguay.
