USA Wheelchair Rugby have confirmed their 12-member team for the Americas Championships in Asunción, Paraguay.

The tournament will be the sole opportunity for teams in the Americas zone to earn automatic qualification for the 2018 World Championships.

The top two finishers will seal qualification as a result of their performances.

Having finished as the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games silver medallists, the United States will be considered among the favourites to win the event.

Chuck Aoki, Clayton Brackett, Jeff Butler, Ernie Chun, Chad Cohn, Jake Daily and Joe Delagrave are among those to have been selected for Championships.

They will be joined by Lee Fredette, Joe Jackson, Chuck Melton, Alejandro Pabon and Josh Wheeler.

“This team represents the beginning of a journey towards Tokyo 2020,” said James Gumbert, USA Wheelchair Rugby head coach.

“Our roster showcases youth as well as seasoned leaders, we expect the America Zone to be very competitive.”

Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay and Canada are expected to join the United States at the Championship.

Competition is set to take place between September 3 to 10.
