Italian biathlete Dominik Windisch has said he is targeting another Winter Olympic medal as preparations for Pyeongchang 2018 continue.

At the Sochi 2014 Games, Windisch was part of the Italy team who claimed a surprise bronze medal in the mixed relay event.

This was the fourth medal won by the country in biathlon at the Winter Olympics, having collected two bronzes at Calgary 1988 before Pieralberto Carrara’s men’s 20 kilometre individual silver at Nagano 1998.

Windisch is currently in training with the 2017-2018 International Biathlon Union (IBU) World Cup season drawing closer along with the Olympics.

In an interview on the IBU’s website, the 27-year-old said he and the rest of the team are "full of hope" that they can repeat the medal success in Pyeongchang.

"I know that my training has been working, concentrating on shooting because that remains my weakness," he said.

"I hope we can do well as a team.

"We have a good men's relay with some young guys who are getting better and better each year."

The Italian men's team finished fifth in this year's IBU World Championships 4x7.5km relay in Hochfilzen, Austria.

Windisch won his Olympic bronze alongside Dorothea Wierer, Karin Oberhofer and Lukas Hofer.
