Canada and the United States could not be separated as they played out a 1-1 draw on the second day of play at the women's Pan American Hockey Cup in Lancaster in Pennsylvania today.

The two North American teams are level on four points at the top of Pool B as a result of the tie at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex.

Amanda Magadan opened the scoring for the US with a goal in the first minute of play.

They managed to hold onto their slender advantage until their resistance was broken in 34th minute when Canada's Rachel Donohoe levelled.

Neither side could find a winner, meaning the points were shared.

Mexico moved into third in Pool B with their first win of the tournament.

Marlet Correa scored the only goal of the game in the 40th minute as the Mexicans edged Brazil 1-0.

Argentina produced the best performance of the day as they thrashed Uruguay 6-0 in Group A.

Despite the scoreline, Uruguay keeper Rosanna Paselle was in emphatic form and kept the damage to a minimum.

She was powerless to prevent six goals though as Noel Barrionuevo scored twice for Argentina while Julieta Jankunas, Delfina Merino, Agostina Alonso and Martina Cavallero also found the back of the net.

The men's event is due to resume tomorrow with the second round of pool stage play.
