Top seeds Wang Tzu Wei and Ratchanok Intanon each looked in ominous form in cruising into their respective singles finals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) New Zealand Open in Auckland today.

Taiwan's Wang romped to an 21-11, 21-12 win over fellow countryman Lin Yu Hsien in their men's singles semi-final at the North Shore Events Centre.

Thailand's Intanon, the 2013 world champion, was just as comfortable in dispatching four-seeded Indonesian Hanna Ramadini 21-13, 21-17 in the corresponding women's draw.

Their respective final opponents were less expected, however.

Japan’s Saena Kawakami earned the right to take on Intanon in the women’s event after surprising second seeded Indonesian Fitriani Fitriani 21-12, 17-21, 21-17.

It marks her fourth final in a BWF Grand Prix Gold event this year, after wins in Canada and Taiwan were accompanied by a second place at the China Masters.

Hong Kong’s Lee Cheuk Yiu prevented an all-Taiwanese final on the men's side.

He produced a superb 21-12 21-19 victory over sixth seed Hsu Jen Hao.

All finals are due to take place tomorrow.
