Thailand's former world number one Ratchanok Intanon survived a scare before battling into the semi-finals at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) New Zealand Open in Auckland today.

Intanon, the top seed who claimed the world title in 2013, lost the opening set against Indonesia's sixth seed Dinar Dyah Ayustine before eventually battling back.

She triumphed 19-21, 21-10, 21-11 in 59 minutes at the North Shore Events Centre.

Fourth seed Hanna Ramadini of Indonesia now lies in wait after winning 21-12, 21-19 against Pai Yu Po of Taiwan.

Second seed Fitriani Fitriani became the second Indonesian into the last-four after fighting past Yen Mei Ho of Malaysia, 9-21, 21-10, 21-13.

Fifth seed Saena Kawakami of Japan also made it through after a 22-20, 21-15 win over Wei Yaxin of China.

Taiwanese players prospered in the men's singles draw.

Top seed Wang Tzu Wei required just 25 minutes to thrash local hope Anthony Joe 21-7, 21-7.

He will now face fellow countryman Lin Yu Hsien, who upset fourth seed Prannoy H.S. of India 21-10, 20-22, 23-21 in a three-game thriller.   

Hong Kong's Lee Cheuk Yiu also produced an upset to knock out another Indian in seventh seed Sourabh Verma 21-19, 21-26.

Another Taiwanese player in sixth seed Hsu Jen Hao completes the semi-final line-up after beating team-mate Chia Hung Lu 22-10, 23-21.

Semi-finals will take place in both events tomorrow.
