Daton Fix beat Youth Olympic champion Ismail Gadzhiev to gold at the United World Wrestling Junior World Championships on a day of American and Russian battles in Tampere.

United States wrestlers reached the finals of all four freestyle events held and faced Russian opponents in three of them.

In the end, there were two American victories and two Russian successes at the Tampere Exhibition and Sports Center in the Finnish city.

Fix, who won bronze at the Junior World Championships last year, scored four technical fall victories on his way to the 55 kilograms final, including a success against Azerbaijan's defending champion Afgan Khashalov.

He then defeated Nanjing 2014 46kg champion Gadzhiev 12-1 to seal the title.

Khashalov recovered to beat Iran's Amirgholi Nasrisamakoush 8-7 for bronze.

Arsen Harutyunyan of Armenia also collected a minor medal as he defeated Germany's Ramzan Awtaew 9-0.

At 66kg, Russia's David Baev, last year's European champion, steamrolled into the final with a quartet of technical fall wins.

He then proved too strong for American Ryan Deakin, beating the international debutant 10-0.

Iveriko Julakidze of Georgia beat Gevorg Mkheyan of Armenia 6-4 for bronze with Mongolia's Temuulen Enkhtuya defeating Iran's Amirhossein Ali Hosseini 6-4 to also earn a spot on the podium.

A second Russian win arrived at 84kg with Artur Naifonov beating American Zahid Valencia 7-5 for gold.

Bronze medals were shared by Iran and Azerbaijan.

Iranian Gadzhimurad Magomedsaidov beat Indian Deepak Punia 10-0 with Azerbaijan's Ahmad Bazrighaleh seeing off Turkey's Osman Gocen 18-8.

Gable Steveson clinched the second American gold at 120kg.

He got the better of Iran's Naeiim Rahim Hassanzadeh, winning 5-1.

Feyzullah Akrurk of Turkey saw off Mongolia's Erdenetulga Davaadorj 3-0 for the first bronze, with Zaur Kozonov of Russia defeating Zuriko Urtashvili of Georgia 4-2 for the second.

American success over the two days of freestyle competition also saw them win the team title.

Women's wrestling will be held tomorrow in the 44kg, 51kg, 59kg and 67kg categories.
