Gold Coast 2018 chairman Peter Beattie has been confirmed as a member of the Australian Rugby League (ARL) Commission.

He has been added to the Commission along with Professor Megan Davis, with the pair filling in current vacancies immediately.

The ARL state that Beattie is one of Queenland’s most successful political leaders, having served as the Premier from 1998 through to 2007.

During his tenure, he played an important role in the construction of Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium and the Gold Coast’s Cbus Stadium.

Beattie is now heading preparations for next year’s Commonwealth Games, which will be held in Gold Coast from April 4 to 15.

"I have a great love of rugby league and I am excited about the prospect of working with the Commission to make the game even greater," said Beattie.

Davis, one of the nation’s leading constitutional lawyers, has also been added to the commission.

She has had a long and distinguished international diplomatic career as well as being a champion of indigenous and women’s rights.

Davis stated she is a passionate rugby league fan who grew up in country Queensland, where rugby league was at the centre of her community.

"I have no doubt these appointments will give the commission additional expertise and insight as it looks to capitalise on the foundations that have been put in place over the last six years,” said John Grant, Commission chairman.

Grant stated that the league’s collective bargaining agreement and finalisation of the club funding are likely to be completed by the end of the year.

It is also expect the licence agreement, constitutional reform and the National Rugby League’s digital will also be finalised.
